Man United have reached an agreement to sign Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta.
First Mason Mount, then Andre Onana. Two of Erik ten Hag’s top targets had been delivered. The Dutchman, who so often chases perfection, has now been given another squad boost.
A new striker simply had to be viewed as the number one need going into this summer transfer window. After lengthy negotiations, the Red Devils are closing in on another top target in the form of Rasmus Højlund.
The man from Atalanta is ready to make that next step, assuming United and the Italian club could find an agreement on transfer fee.
Well, according to Fabrizio Romano, that has now happened. He claims that there has been an ‘agreement reached’. With United now closing in on the striker signing.
The overall package will cost in excess of £60m, with various add-ones and bonuses still to come.
A five-year contract is already in place with the player, who ‘only wanted’ United as soon as he caught wind of their genuine interest.
Højlund is a boyhood United fan and I cannot imagine how excited he must feel this morning. He’s no doubt buzzing to be given this surreal opportunity.
Now, it’s a case of closing the deal as quickly as possible, in order for the young man to be given as much time to settle into his new surroundings before the serious action starts in two weeks.
For the fans, patience is key. Højlund is still a raw product and he will have bad days. We all need to accept that over the next couple of years, while enjoying watch him develop and grow.
He absolutely has all the tools to go right the way to the top. With the right attitude and coaching, we could have an absolute star on our hands.
