Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has joked that having England teammate Mason Mount at the club is ‘strange’.
Erik Ten Hag‘s side made the former Chelsea star their first signing of this summer transfer window after agreeing a £60million fee for the 24-year-old on a five-year deal.
The transfer ended Mount’s long stint at the London-based club – having started out in the Chelsea youth system before working his way up to the first XI.
Since the midfielder joined the Red Devils, defender Luke Shaw has spoken out on what it’s like to have fellow national teammate with him at the club.

Mount and Shaw regularly spend time together at England camps, though according to the Daily Mirror, the latter admitted that seeing the midfielder in club training is ‘quite strange’.
‘I’m really happy to have him here. I think it’s been quite nice for the new lads to come in because sometimes in the past they’ve come in after the tour and I think the tour is a good time to come [into the squad] because we’re all together a lot.
‘So it’s nice for them to be with the lads and the staff and integrate and get to know everyone a bit more than when you’re just at the training ground.
‘It’s been really good, really positive and I’m looking forward to one more game.
Mount was the start of a wave of signings to the Red Devils this summer, preceded by Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as a replacement for David de Gea.
Ten Hag’s side have more recently agreed a deal with Italian side Atalanta for Rasmus Hojlund as a rival striker to Manchester City’s Scandinavian goal machine, Erling Haaland.
Shaw has a positive outlook on the 2023-24 league campaign for Manchester United, as he says their aim will be ‘winning every single competition we’re in’.
Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard also praised Mount for his ‘attitude and intelligence’ in the £60m move to the Manchester club.
Speaking on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Lampard said: ‘I think it’s a complicated one [why he left Chelsea] and in the end, he’s got a year left on his contract …
‘What I’ll say about Mason is, all the things I spoke about there, you talk about modern players and how the game’s changed, he is a throwback to the attitude and the commitment and the quality… that was the beauty of working with Mason. He gave you so much in terms of his effort every day.

‘Don’t get me wrong, bar raisers are already there with Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, but he will absolutely fit in with that.
‘If you’re trying to build a group mentality of a team with] players that are just going to give everything and have talent which a top team needs, he fits in.
The midfielder showed an impressive first display against Leeds in a pre-season friendly in Oslo.
After almost 20 years at Chelsea, Mount racked up nearly 200 appearances and 30 goals for the Blues.
