Man United have now lowered their asking price for Fred, as the Red Devils look to clear some room within the squad.
Manchester United Football Club have made a few signings this summer. All of these are positive steps in the right direction, addressing needs at goalkeeper, midfield and striker.
Erik ten Hag is now looking to trim down his squad, while raising further funds to bring in added quality. Sofyan Amrabat feels like a player that the Dutchman is desperate to bring in, though there’s currently no space for him right now.
As a result, the gaffer is looking to make that room by selling at least one midfielder. Fred’s name appears to be the most obvious choice, while his absence from pre-season tour hints that the club are looking to sell the 30-year-old.
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has provided an update on Fred’s potential sale, claiming that United have lowered the asking price by almost £5m (€5m), from €20m to €15m.
Fred was pretty decent last season, though that’s not enough for United to be competing with Manchester City for major honours, hence, these minor tweaks to the squad have to continue.
United paid in excess of £50m to bring in Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and they were never going to get close to that fee back for the Brazilian, mostly due to his age. His inconsistent performances haven’t helped, either.
Right now, it feels like a case of United just trying to get Fred off the books. The problem? The lack of interest. Fulham and Galatasaray appear to be the clubs who are most keen on bringing in the midfielder, though clearly, they’re not going to break the bank to bring him in.
For United, it’s a waiting game. I’d expect this one to drag on late into the month of August, which may be a problem as other clubs could swoop in and sign Ambrabat.
