Man United are ‘considering’ moving to rival Liverpool for the signing of Romeo Lavia.
Manchester United are still trying to close the gap on Manchester City atop the Premier League table. The Red Devils still need to tinker their playing squad, though it has been difficult, amid a potential club sale.
A striker signing is close to happening, while a goalkeeper and one midfielder has come through the door. However, Erik ten Hag is seemingly keen on adding another central player before the window slams shut.
Several names have been linked with filling that void. Most recently, the media is pushing Sofyan Ambrabat’s name.
Now, The Independent have thrown another name into the ring; Romeo Lavia.
According to their report, United ‘are considering’ trying to ‘trump’ rivals Liverpool for the signature of the talented 19-year-old midfielder.
The Red Devils, Liverpool, City and Arsenal have all at least ‘had a look’ at Lavia, who enjoyed himself for Southampton in 2022/23.
It’s reiterated that United want to sign a midfielder during this window, though they will have to sell before they can buy. Brandon Williams, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Harry Maguire and Fred are all up for sale.
Selling a few of those could generate the income needed to sign either Amrabat or Lavia during this transfer window, though moving players on is proving tough.
The verdict
We believe United will end up signing a midfielder of some description. The Kobbie Mainoo injury only further emphasises that need. However, we’re not sure who – or when.
I reckon it’s going to be late on in the transfer window, when United have raised some funds by letting other players leave. Whether they’ll have enough to sign Lavia or Amrabat remains to be seen…
