Man United are now ready to make their first offer to try and sign Romeo Lavia.
It’s no secret that Manchester United are still trying to sign another midfielder, despite Mason Mount’s arrival at the Theatre of Dreams.
Sofyan Amrabat has been the name most linked with filling that void, though it does make sense for United to have alternatives to the man from Morocco.
Yesterday, Romeo Lavia’s name popped up again. Apparently, the Reds were ‘considering’ trying to beat Liverpool to the signature of the young Belgian.
Now, another journalist has even fresher information for us in regard to United’s potential pursuit of Lavia.
It’s Ekrem Konur this time. He says United ‘are preparing’ their ‘opening bid’ to sign the 19-year-old midfielder this summer.
Lavia enjoyed himself in 2022/23, playing some excellent football for a poor Southampton side. The young Belgian absolutely stood out, though couldn’t help his side stave off relegation.
Check out Ekrem Konur’s tweet here:
The Lavia situation has seemingly intensified over the last 24 hours, with United now looking to firm up their interest with an official bid. What that figure will be remains a mystery.
You’d expect that Lavia or the aforementioned Amrabat will cost a similar fee, though the former may fetch a little more as he’s significantly younger and has Premier League experience. Somewhere around the £50m mark seems about right.
My concern is that United don’t have that sort of money available to them right now. They’d still have to sell before they can buy and I don’t see any exits looking imminent. It may prove tough to get that done before Liverpool finalise a move to bring in Lavia.
