Man United are willing to part with Harry Maguire this summer, though his wages could be an issue.
Manchester United’s main goal this summer is to strengthen the playing squad. To Erik ten Hag’s credit, he’s done exactly that with some astute signings. Further additions are needed, though money will have to be made by selling players on.
One man whose future still remains firmly up in the air is Harry Maguire. The Englishman has struggled over the last couple of years, while this summer, he’d lose the captaincy which was no doubt super frustrating.
The centre-back has fallen down the pecking order and is no doubt weighing up his options.
Now, Football Insider have provided a further update on Maguire’s future. They state that United are ‘willing to sell’ a man who takes home £200k-a-week during this window, though those wages could become an issue for any potential buying club.
Maguire is attracting Premier League interest aplenty, with Everton now leading the race after they ‘leapfrog’ Tottenham Hotspur. West Ham and Chelsea have also registered their interest in signing the defender during this month.
Maguire has been told he’ll only play a back-up role at Old Trafford if he stays at the club beyond the summer. Last season felt like the start of the end, with the Englishman making just sixteen starts.
The verdict
I just cannot get over those astronomical wages. No club is going to make an offer close to that amount, meaning I still believe Maguire will be a Red Devil come the end of the summer window.
He’ll remain fourth choice at best, though when this current contract expires, he’ll then have the pick of what club to move to next.
In all honesty, there are worse back-up centre-backs out there so I have no problem keeping Maguire around.
