Man United have been having under the radar discussions over the signing of Sofyan Amrabat.
Manchester United have added Mason Mount to the playing squad already, though Erik ten Hag is seemingly looking to bring in another midfield player.
The Dutch manager has preferred to surround himself with familiarity, signing footballers he’s worked with previously. Another player who could potentially fall into that bracket is Sofyan Amrabat. The pair worked together at FC Utrecht.
The links to Amrabat have been growing in frequency, though the common denominator is the fact that United will have to sell before they can buy.
Now, journalist Alfredo Pedulla has provided another update in the saga and it’s a pretty important one for United. He says that the sale will happen ‘soon’ for the man from Morocco.
On top of that, United have held ‘secret contacts’ with Fiorentina through intermediaries.
Check out Alfredo Pedulla’s tweet here:
The links tell us two things. First, the club are pretty keen on signing Amrabat in some way, shape or form this summer. Second, the Reds are confident they’ll have the funds to bring the midfielder in – otherwise these talks would be pointless.
United need depth. That’s the next step for Ten Hag. The starting line-up is good, though the back-up options when players need a rest or are injured, is not. It’s now about building a squad full of 25 quality players. Obviously, this takes time.
Amrabat feels like the next logical step on that journey, likely replacing Fred or Donny van de Beek. For my money, that’s a definite upgrade. Hopefully, this one won’t drag on for too much longer.
