Man United believe the sale of Fred will move forward over the next week.
At least for the time being, it feels like Manchester United’s focus is solely on selling players, in order to generate more funds for Erik ten Hag to utilise.
There’s a whole host of Red Devils whose heads should be on the chopping block at this stage. Quite frankly, some players within that current dressing room just aren’t good enough.
I think it’s fair to say that Fred falls into that category. A decent squad player, but nothing more. Inconsistency has plagued his game ever since he was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Now, the gaffer is looking to move away from him. According to Fabrizio Romano, sources guarantee that he will ‘100% leave the club’ this summer. On top of that, the Reds ‘expect’ the sale to ‘advance’ over the next week.
Check out Fabrizio Romano’s tweet on Fred’s future here:
Honestly, this makes sense. Galatasaray have been linked with a move to sign the Brazilian, while Fulham have also expressed their interest over the last few months.
For obvious reasons, I’d prefer to see Fred moved abroad, while heading to Galatasaray would be a decent chance for the player to add some trophies to his collection.
The verdict
Fred is not a bad player. It just takes that extra 10% to do it at the highest level. I’m not quite sure he’s cut out to play for the top tier, though he’d be a good player for pretty much every team in the world.
If United can get any sort of semi-decent transfer fee for Fred, while getting his wages off the books, it does make sense as Ten Hag obviously has other options he’d like to bring in to his midfield. Sofyan Amrabat, anyone?
