Man United back-up goalkeeper, Tom Heaton, is out for a number of weeks with injury.
Manchester United are now just a few days away from the beginning of their Premier League campaign. A home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers looms.
Erik ten Hag will be looking to start off on the right foot, against a side who’ll be hoping for that new manager bounce from Gary O’Neill.
Ahead of the game, United have been dealt an injury blow. Tom Heaton is now out for the ‘first few weeks’ of the season with a fresh injury problem. The club confirmed the news yesterday evening.
The extent of the injury has not been revealed by the club, nor have they given information on what the problem area is. No doubt they’re conducting more tests behind the scenes (somewhat frantically at this point), to decide what their plan is next.
If it’s a semi-serious problem, it could mean the cancellation of Matej Kovar’s move to Bayer Leverkusen, or even the possibility of Dean Henderson being kept around…
Failing that, Ten Hag could look to move for a new back-up shot-stopper. He would have to act quickly with time now running out in the transfer window, particularly with United still working on other deals also.
Let’s hope the injury is only a few weeks, meaning Heaton can come back and prove his worth as and when required. The problem is that if Andre Onana picks up an injury of his own, then United could be in a massive spot of bother.
I’d expect Heaton to be back after the first international break of the season, which comes after the first four league fixtures.
