Man United had scouts keeping an eye on Jean-Clair Todibo during the OGC Nice game last night.
Manchester United Football Club are looking set to allow Harry Maguire leave the club during this window, with the Red Devils now on the hunt for a replacement.
It’s believed that Erik ten Hag would like to have a move for a new centre-back in place, before officially allowing Maguire to head to West Ham United.
Jean-Clair Todibo is among the names linked with replacing the ex-United captain, with the centre-back currently plying his trade for OGC Nice in France.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, United decided to take a closer look at Todibo. According to his sources, United had scouts in attendance last night, watching the Reds-linked 23-year-old in action against Lille.
The game would finish 1-1, with Todio’s side denied a clean sheet in the 94th minute of that Friday night encounter.
Todibo would have a decent game at the heart of the Nice defence, looking comfortable with the ball at feet while also showing off his abilities as a no-nonsense defender when required.
The Frenchman would allow United to get younger at that position, while having a ready-made Raphael Varane replacement in place, when the ex-Real Madrid defender decides to walk away from the game.
You also have to factor in Varane’s scattered injury history. Todibo would no doubt see his fair share of minutes from day one. United also have plenty of games to play due to their participation in multiple competitions.
In terms of transfer fee, you’d hope that United could fund this deal in its entirety via player sales. Maguire’s departure should cover the lion’s share of that.
