Benjamin Pavard is seemingly desperate to complete a transfer to Man United this summer.
Manchester United look set to keep ahold of Harry Maguire, at least in the short term. The Englishman turned down a move to West Ham United earlier in the week.
With money tight at Old Trafford, the general feeling is that the club will have to sell before they can buy any more players. For Erik ten Hag, that’s obviously less than ideal.
Benjamin Pavard is among the names who has been heavily linked with a transfer to the Theatre of Dreams this summer, though a deal has seemingly stalled in the wake of the Maguire news.
According to Bild (translated via Sport Witness), Pavard’s plan is clear. The 27-year-old defender ‘wants to go’ to United this summer. His deal expires in 2024, so it would make sense for Bayern Munich to cash in now, or risk losing him for nothing in twelve months’ time.
The report adds that United have made first contact over the signing of Pavard, though no bid has been made at this stage.
Inter, on the other hand, have made a bid already – though that offer fell way short of the £35m asking price for Pavard.
The problem for United is that they’re still in a situation where money is tight. I would have imagined that if the funds were available, Pavard would already be in Manchester, holding his new jersey aloft.
Sadly, moving on from players is proving far more difficult than the club initially imagined it would be. The likes of Maguire, Eric Bailly, Donny van de Beek, Dean Henderson and many more remain at the club after several years of mediocrity. And it’s all the club’s own fault.
This issue could well allow Inter to make their move while a United deal continues to stall.
