Erik ten Hag has confirmed that Lisandro Martinez is set to be available to take on Spurs tomorrow.
Manchester United managed to squeeze past Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, winning 1-0 on Monday Night Football, despite playing at a level far from their best.
At half-time in that one, Lisandro Martinez was substituted. At the time, we all just assumed it was a tactical switch due to the fact he was on a yellow card. However, it has since been confirmed that the Argentine was nursing an injury.
Licha’s campaign ended prematurely last term through being sidelined, so there was immediate concern among supporters about this one. Thankfully, United were always confident that it was nothing to worry about.
Now, in his most recent pre-match press conference, Ten Hag provided a positive injury update on the player, believing he will be available vs Spurs tomorrow after training on Thursday.
“He was just training [on Thursday], so I think so. Yeah.” Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com.
It goes without saying, Licha has immediately turned into one of the Reds’ most important players. Not only is he an elite footballer, but his leadership qualities and style of play is massively important to any success United may have.
The fact that this injury isn’t anything long term, apparently, he’s already over the problem, is a relief, particularly when it doesn’t look like United will be signing any other defenders during this window. Couple that with Raphael Varane’s mixed injury record and we absolutely need the ex-Ajax man to stay fit.
Tomorrow’s game against Spurs will be a major test not only for Licha, but the whole squad. United simply have to improve from their performance against Wolves. There’s no getting away from that.
