Kobbie Mainoo is not available right now, though he will have his part to play, according to Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United Football Club were dealt a few injury blows during pre-season. Perhaps the biggest of the lot was Kobbie Mainoo’s. The young midfielder went down early. He looked to be in some pain.
At the time, Erik ten Hag didn’t offer much information, though the initial prognosis hinted at months sidelined rather than weeks. It was a massive shame for the young man who did not look out of place in the Reds’ midfield, alongside names who were far more experienced.
Well, Ten Hag has offered another injury update on the young starlet, admitting that he’ll be ‘ready’ to play his part upon his return in two months.
While it’s sad to realise we will not see Mainoo until October at the very earliest, he must be relishing the opportunity to become a regular part of this senior squad. He’s definitely earned it.
Check out what the gaffer had to say on Kobbie Mainoo in full here:
“I know, in this moment, he’s not there, but Kobbie Mainoo, we have seen him against Arsenal [in pre-season], he is ready to also to pick that role,” Ten Hag said to media, including ManUtd.com. “At this moment, he’s not available but I think he will also, in say one, two months. Not in one month, but in two months, he will be available.
“And so, for the winter [that] is coming up, he absolutely will have his games.”
Ten Hag doesn’t often talk about young players like this, which gives you a glimpse into how talented Mainoo is. He already looks like a senior professional with years of experience under his belt, and he’s still only eighteen.
The only problem I can foresee happening is the fact that he’ll need several weeks to be built up to speed again. That match sharpness will not immediately return and he’ll probably have to play some U21 games in order to get those levels back first.
Get well soon, Kobbie!
