Harry Maguire was not involved against Spurs due to a minor injury.
Manchester United Football Club lost 2-0 away at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, putting in a pretty woeful performance at White Hart Lane.
Erik ten Hag will have been gutted with the whole display, although he actually admitted that he thought it was a decent performance in his post-match presser.
Before the game, rumours were circling about Harry Maguire’s absence. Many assumed that a transfer away was possibly on the cards as he didn’t even make the bench. However, that’s not the case.
It’s Fabrizio Romano who provided the latest information, confirming that the United star was not called up for the game due to a ‘minor injury’. Thankfully, the problem will not keep him out for too long. I’d actually expect to see him back on the bench next weekend.
I know Maguire isn’t exactly flavour of the month right now. Purely because his exit would have generated the funds to bring in a new centre-back. That said, it’s United who have to take the blame. They’re the ones that gave him this massive contract. It’s up to him to stay here and collect that money.
Yes, it’s not the decision I would have made. I would much prefer to play, but again, that’s not my decision or choice to make.
United need four centre-backs over the course of the season and I fully expect that Maguire will be given his fair share of minutes, particularly when you look at Raphael Varane’s pretty tragic injury record over the last few seasons.
I don’t doubt he has the right mentality to come in and do a good job when needed.
