Crystal Palace are looking at signing Dean Henderson from Man United this summer.
It’s early days, but Andre Onana is looking like the real deal. The man from Cameroon has started life in Manchester well, despite the problems in front of him…
Erik ten Hag still has some goalkeeping issues to contend with. The elephant in the room? Dean Henderson still being at the club. He’s not happy here. That’s no secret. It has been the case for quite some time.
A move to Nottingham Forest on a permanent deal looked likely. Seemingly, that fell through. Henderson looked good for them in the first half of last season before injury struck. The Englishman would then be thrust back into the back-up role at United due to a Tom Heaton injury.
Interest in Henderson has reignited. This time, from Crystal Palace. It’s the BBC with the story. They state that the Premier League club ‘are interested’ in signing the 26-year-old.
It is believed that deal would be a loan with an obligation to buy. Palace have two loan spots free at present, with Vicente Guaita refusing to play for the London club, after losing his place to Sam Johnstone.
No doubt Henderson would also want his guarantees before signing off on that move. If he’s going to play back-up to Johnstone, then I can imagine him turning down that chance and instead staying at United.
However, if Henderson is ready to take that chance, it feels like an easy decision for the Old Trafford club.
The verdict
I just don’t see how Henderson staying in Manchester works. He’s made no bones about the fact he wants to move on. Make it happen, generate some funds and invest those back into the squad.
Hendo would be nothing more than a back-up, while the longer he stays, the lower his value would become. If United can get a decent chunk of guaranteed money for him right now, they should take it.
