Man United’s Facundo Pellistri is in talks with Sheffield United, over a season-long loan move.
Manchester United Football Club have struggled in their opening couple of Premier League games. That much is obvious. Against Tottenham, Hotspur, Facundo Pellistri looked like a bright spark off the bench.
Some fans have been calling for the man from Uruguay to start against Nottingham Forest this weekend. Personally, I feel he’s better as an impact substitute at this stage in his career, but I do understand where those supporters are coming from.
It’s a tricky situation for United. Pellistri is only going to be given limited opportunity here in Manchester, so perhaps a move away, at least in the short-term, would possibly make sense.
According to The Telegraph, United are ‘in talks’ with Sheffield United over a season-long loan move for the 21-year-old starlet.
This would give Pellistri the chance to play regular football at the Premier League level. He’d likely be involved week-in-week-out, with the chance to start far more matches for the Blades than he would here in Manchester.
The problem is that I do not see Sheffield United winning many games this season. He’d be playing in a side that will concede the majority of possession in most games and he may find it tough to get on the ball.
The verdict
It’s a fine balance for United. In the end, with everyone fit, I do not see Pellistri playing meaningful minutes so a loan move away feels like the best option.
Erik ten Hag has to pick the right club. Pellistri simply has to be starting games on a regular basis in order for this to be worth it. If that doesn’t happen, then he may as well stay in Manchester as at least he’d be training with better players.
