Shea Lacey has committed his future to Man United by signing a new contract.
Manchester United’s bread and butter has always been developing young players and giving them their opportunity. Erik ten Hag will continue that mantra – though you have to be a pretty special talent.
Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo fit into that mould. That’s the plan that Shea Lacey is trying to follow. For me, the young attacker is the best player at the U18 level right now. He already looks too good for that age bracket.
The Englishman has now committed his future to United by signing a new contract with the Reds, amid ‘serious transfer interest’. That’s according to the Manchester Evening News.
Lacey has signed a scholarship deal with United, with an agreement in principle to make that a professional contract when he turns seventeen next April.

The MEN state that while there is ‘still work to be done’ for Lacey to make it into the first team, his talent has been recognised by attracting interest from all across Europe. Apparently, he was subject to interest from United’s ‘major rivals’ before this deal was reached.
It’s added that Ten Hag has already held one-to-one meetings with a number of youngsters, including Lacey.
The gaffer now has a more active role with the youth team, with Ten Hag having a say on who trains with the first-team, for example.
Without wanting to place the pressure on the young man, I genuinely think it cannot be long before Lacey is given the chance to get involved in the first-team mix in some capacity. Seeing him out there for pre-season next summer doesn’t feel like something that’s completely out of the question.
