Erik ten Hag feels ‘let down’ by Jadon Sancho, with the gaffer expected to come down hard on the Englishman for his social media outburst.
Just when it feels like Manchester United are turning a corner, another problem arises for Erik ten Hag.
On-field issues, injury problems and players getting in trouble with the law. It has been quite the calamitous few months…
The latest in a long line of issues that Ten Hag is dealing with is Jadon Sancho. The Englishman was left out of the squad against Arsenal, with the gaffer explaining it was due to poor performances in training.
Then, Sancho would take to social media to defend himself, claiming that he had emerged as a scapegoat… Disciplinary action has already been mentioned as a possibility.
Now, according to the usually reliable Rob Dawson at ESPN, it’s claimed that Ten Hag feels ‘particularly let down’ by the 23-year-old. The gaffer went to ‘extraordinary measures’ to help him last season, including placing him on an individual training plan and allowing indefinite leave.
As a result, Ten Hag is ‘expected to come down hard’ on the player, as he sees this as a threat and challenge to his authority – something which the Dutchman has tried to instil since arriving at the club last summer.
The verdict
There’s going to be no perfect outcome here. I do not see either Sancho or Ten Hag backing down from their stance. However, the manager is always right.
In this case, it’ll be Sancho who leaves through the exit door. Presumably as early as January. However, United will not be given anything close to the Englishman’s market value, as potential buying clubs will know all about the very public dispute the pair have had.
Sadly, Sancho just hasn’t worked at United. He says he’s still committed to the club and the fans, but let’s see…
