Christian Eriksen played an elite game for Denmark yesterday, recording three assists during an outstanding performance.
Manchester United are on a break due to international football right now. Perhaps it comes at a good time for Erik ten Hag, with pressure mounting.
This fortnight period offers time for some players to return from injury, with the treatment room filling up far too rapidly right now. It’ll also give some players a chance to go out there and shine for their country.
Christian Eriksen dropped an absolute masterclass against San Marino last night. Denmark would win 4-0, with the United midfielder at the heart of everything good about the victory.
The United player bossed it for his country, registering three assists, creating six chances and completing 90% of his passes. The highlight, no doubt, was this lovely back-heeled assist.
It was super to see Eriksen showcase his creativity and skill, as we’ve been starved of that to start the 2023/24 season.

So we have to factor in the opponent. San Marino aren’t a highly-ranked national team, though it was nice to see Eriksen step up to the plate and power his side to an important victory.
More than anything, this is good for the confidence. Eriksen has displayed that he still has what it takes to play at a high level, despite the additions of both Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat this summer.
It’s a message to Ten Hag by Eriksen, who is making a statement about his position in the side. I actually think he brings better balance to the team than the other options right now, so I’d be more than fine with that position being Eriksen’s to lose at this stage in the campaign.
Rasmus Hojlund also played in this game as a late substitute, building some match fitness with a 30-minute cameo off the bench.
