Victor Lindelof has admitted his love for Man United, confirming his exit from the club never came close.
Manchester United’s summer transfer window was decent. Erik ten Hag started well, though there was a genuine lull in the middle, before transfer deadline day offered some redemption.
The main aim this summer was to rid of some dead wood, though the club struggled to do that due to the fringe players at United being on massive wages.
One man whose stock has certainly risen over the last six months is Victor Lindelof. The Swede ended last season excellently, after Lisandro Martinez’s campaign-ending injury.
Lindelof looked superb alongside Raphael Varane, putting in his best form since making the move to Manchester from Benfica.
Naturally, there were still exit rumours over the summer, though the 29-year-old United defender has now confirmed that his Reds exit ‘wasn’t close’. The Ice Man also admitted his ‘love’ for the Old Trafford club.
Check out what Victor Lindelof had to say in full here:
“I love Manchester Utd and I still have a contract. So I can say that my exit this summer wasn’t close at all”. Lindelof is quoted as saying by Fabrizio Romano.
I’ve been surprisingly impressed with Lindelof recently. I was sceptical of his abilities for many years, but when he’s not playing alongside Harry Maguire, he looks like a top-quality centre-back.
My trust in him has been fully restored and when you have someone who is consistently picking up injuries like Varane, you need a Lindelof who can come in and do a stellar job.
The fact that he’s loving life at United is another positive step. It would have been easy for Lindelof to walk away when the fans started to get on his back. Instead, he’s risen to the challenge, silenced his doubters and is now playing the best football of his career.
