Man United fans have been offered a positive Mason Mount injury update.
Manchester United’s injury issues have been well documented so far this term. The Red Devils have struggled in terms of treatment table woes, with several players being ruled out for prolonged periods.
Mason Mount was among them. The summer signing started the Reds’ first couple of games, before being struck down with a semi-serious injury.
The ex-Chelsea man wasn’t expected back for at least another few weeks, though United have been given a lift on that front – and it comes from a reliable source.
The Athletic‘s (subscription required) Simon Johnson has confirmed that Mount is targeting a return from injury vs Bayern on September 20th. However, he has been given an ‘outside chance’ at featuring next weekend vs Brighton.
You’d imagine Ten Hag will approach this one cautiously, as he will not want to risk losing a big-money signing for a prolonged period as he has been rushed back too soon.
Mount looked pretty good against Spurs, looking like United’s best midfielder on the day. However, the landscape in that area of the pitch may be very different now.
Sofyan Amrabat has now joined, while Kobbie Mainoo is another who looks like he’s on the mend. I’d still expect Mount to be the first choice option, at least in the short term, though it’ll be intriguing to see how it all plays out.
The verdict
Although there’s a slim chance we’ll see Mount back among the substitutes against Brighton next Saturday, I’d doubt it. I would guess that he’ll be held out of that one, with a view to making the bench in that following midweek away at Bayern Munich.
Either way, he’s a good option to have.
