Joe Hugill has agreed to put pen on paper on a new contract at Man United.
Manchester United’s pre-season shone light on the fantastic academy available at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. The gaffer has made it clear that those players will have to earn their opportunities, rather than being handed them out for free.
Kobbie Mainoo looks to be the next big thing from the academy, though he has started this campaign injured. Another man who looked impressive during the summer friendly games was Joe Hugill.
The striker, physical in his play, great at holding up the ball and a natural finisher, has overtaken Charlie McNeill in the pecking order, or so it would seem.
Hugill seems to have all the tools required to make it at the highest level, hence, it comes as no surprise to hear that United are looking to tie him down to a new contract.
According to the Daily Mail, that may not be too far away from happening. Their report claims that the 19-year-old United starlet has ‘agreed a new contract’ with the club, after impressing Ten Hag.
The striker went away with the senior squad during the summer and looked good, with clubs now circling for his signature in January. Sunderland, the side who United acquired Hugill from, seem to be at the front of the queue.
The verdict on a Joe Hugill new contract
Hugill is familiar with Wearside, so this move would make sense. United have a decent rapport with Sunderland. It’s where Amad thrived last term.
The young Englishman is at that stage in his career where he has to be playing in order to continue developing as a footballer. The second half of this season could be massive for Hugill, while it’d offer Ten Hag a further glimpse as to what the striker can potentially offer going forward.
