Erik ten Hag has offered a team news update ahead of the Burnley game later today.
Manchester United Football Club are desperate for a victory this weekend. Burnley will certainly not be an easy task for the Red Devils, particularly with how Erik ten Hag’s side is playing right now.
I’d suggest the start to the season has been uncharacteristically sloppy. Defensively, it has been a mess at times, while the midfield has been bypassed far too easily.
Injuries certainly haven’t help in that regard, though Ten Hag has been keen to ensure that having players missing is not becoming an excuse.
Ahead of the game later, Ten Hag has offered an injury update on four. It seems as though Harry Maguire is the closest to returning, though Raphael Varane, Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount are all back in training.
Check out the full injury update from the boss here:
“Maybe, as you say, Harry Maguire,” replied Ten Hag, per ManUtd.com. “We will see better after training [on Friday afternoon]. But Varane will train and we will see. Amrabat, he will train and we will see. Mount, as well, but they all didn’t play for a short or longer term.
“Varane, obviously, was the shortest [time] out.”
As I try to read between the lines, I feel like Maguire could be back among the subs, while Varane could find himself in the matchday squad.
I’d also assume that this one comes a little too soon for both Mount and Amrabat, meaning we’re likely to see Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes start again.
The good news is that the gaffer does seem to be getting some players back into the first-team fold. It’s important to have depth going into the busy portion of the season.
I’m personally super excited to see how Amrabat will get on, with real hope surrounding the man from Morocco.
