Manchester United came back from 1-0 down to beat Brentford 2-1 with two goals in added time courtesy of substitute Scott McTominay.
The Scottish international, who has been at the club since he was five-years-old, came on in the 87th minute and turned the game around.
Speaking to MUTV after the match, captain Bruno Fernandes sang the praises of the match winner.
It’s Fergie time. At United it’s normal to score at this time of the game and part of Fergie time [means] it has to be an Academy graduate scoring too. Scott gave us the win today and we are really happy for him. Part of the two goals was the desire and togetherness we had during the whole game, and the effort everyone that came on in the game to help the team [had] was really good.
The crowd got behind the players, despite being on the brink of yet another dreadful result, and Fernandes reflected on the impact of the fans.
We saw it, we’re losing the game but you see when we get to 1-1 how they get behind us. They believe with us to get the result and that is what is important to us.
There obviously has been plenty of criticism following a string of poor results but Bruno knows that comes with the territory of playing for United.
It’s Manchester United – you’ll never stop the noise. Even if you win 10 games in a row, noise [is created] around something else. This club is massive and we have to be aware of that.
Everyone who plays at Old Trafford has to feel that it is not a good place to come. It is a good stadium to come [to], but it is not a good place to play. We have to get back the feeling that we are an aggressive team and when we play at home we’re difficult to beat and it’s difficult to get something from that.
