Scott McTominay has been named in the latest BBC Team of the Week as Man United beat Brentford 2-1.
Manchester United Football Club have not been playing at a level anywhere close to their best this season so far. Erik ten Hag has to wear that blame. However, he seemed clear that he wanted to use the 2-1 victory over Brentford as a real turning point. It simply has to be.
The game itself was another depressing affair – until the 93rd minute when Scott McTominay grabbed the bull by the horns and sent Old Trafford mental, scoring twice in a few minutes to turn the game on its head.
Of all the match-winning heroes at the club, McTominay would have been pretty far down the list. That said, it was a sublime cameo from a man who has had to wait patiently for his chance this season.
As a result, McTominay was the one United star who was named in the BBC Team of the Week for his sublime performance – despite only being on the pitch for about 10 minutes.

Seriously, all credit to him. It would have been oh so easy for McTominay to sit there and moan, particularly after the club put him in the shop window last season. instead, he’s risen to the challenge, trying to prove why he does deserve a place at this club. With that mentality and attitude, he’ll always go far.
Now, Ten Hag has some big decisions to make regarding McTominay. Is there now a way back into the starting line-up for the midfielder? Or does this put the Scotland international right into the shop window? Either way, a massive brace like that is only a positive thing.
