Man United have accelerated Aaron Wan-Bissaka contract talks, with his deal winding down.
Manchester United Football Club are decimated by injury right now. The Old Trafford side have pretty much a full line-up of players sidelined, including their first-choice back four.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been missing at right-back, with the Englishman dealing with a pretty lengthy injury problem. In his absence, Diogo Dalot has started in that position.
However, Wan-Bissaka remains the best right-back at the club (in our opinion anyway).
Seemingly, United seem to think so too, as they’re ready to ‘accelerate’ contract talks with the 25-year-old. That’s according to Football Insider. His current deal expires next summer, though United do have the option to extend that by a further year.
Instead, it is believed that the club are in talks over a completely new, long-term contract, which would see Wan-Bissaka commit his future to the Old Trafford club.
Football Insider believe this news comes as a ‘surprise’ due to Ten Hag’s failure to select Wan-Bissaka during the early stages of his United career. However, The Spider has improved drastically since then and he was playing at a very high level before this latest injury blow.
For me, a new deal for Wan-Bissaka makes perfect sense. He’s the best player we have in that area of the field and I’d much prefer to see him start games over Dalot.
Yes, there’s a chance that Ten Hag dips his toes into the right-back market at some point in the not too distant future, but right now, Wan-Bissaka deserves the starts upon his return from injury. It makes sense to protect that asset, particularly as his best years could still be ahead of him.
