Man United are looking to extend the contract of Omari Forson.
Manchester United have always been pretty good when it comes to developing young players from the academy and giving them their first-team opportunity. It’s something which Erik ten Hag has tried to continue doing.
Over the summer, several teenagers were given their chance, including Omari Forson. The winger shone in the early portion of the friendly games, to everyone’s surprise as nobody expected it at that time.
We haven’t seen Forson since, which was always likely to happen given the fact that he’s still somewhat far down in the pecking order. A loan move could well have been the play for the talented winger, though that will now have to wait until January at the earliest.
The Daily Mail have provided an update on Forson’s long-term future, with Chris Wheeler claiming that United are in discussions to extend the contract of the ‘exciting’ 19-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer.
Understandably, United are keen to cement Forson down to a new long-term deal, particularly as he has impressed in the UEFA Youth Champions League this campaign.
A new multi-year contract would take the pressure off Forson for the next few seasons, allowing him to focus solely on his football.
You’d expect that Forson will be a part of the summer tour again next year, before going away on season-long loan. Then, without wanting to look too far into the future, Forson would hope to be challenging for regular first-team minutes in the 2025/26 season. We’re obviously some way off that time and obviously a lot can happen beforehand.
