Man United have eyes on Goncalo Inacio, with the centre-back being eyed as a possible transfer target for next summer.
Manchester United Football Club are currently without all of their first choice back four through injury. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw are all sidelined.
It’s no surprise then, to see Erik ten Hag look at other options in that area of the field. After all, he cannot rely upon some players who are consistently out injured.
Last week, we covered a claim which stated that United could make a January move to sign Goncalo Inacio – a Sporting CP defender who is impressing over in the Portuguese league right now.
Now, The Mirror have provided their take on Inacio. Although they also believe the Reds are keen on signing the player, they differ on the timeframe. The Mirror believe this will be a move that could take place next summer as the Reds look to bolster their defence.
According to the report, United have added the 22-year-old defender to the transfer shortlist. The man from Portugal had previously been earmarked as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, though the Englishman didn’t end up moving to West Ham United, which did scupper those plans.
Ten Hag remains ‘determined’ to strengthen in the centre-half position, particularly after the aforementioned injuries, coupled with player sales including Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Eric Bailly and Teden Mengi.
United have drawn up a four-player shortlist, including Jean-Clair Todibo, Antonio Silva, Edmond Tapsoba and now Goncalo Inacio.
United have an excellent working relationship with Sporting CP, while Inacio is represented by Miguel Pinho, the same agent who negotiated Bruno Fernandes’ move to Old Trafford. You do get the feeling that this one is heating up.
