Roy Keane is not impressed with how Andre Onana has started life at Man United.
Manchester United’s start to the campaign has been massively underwhelming. The Old Trafford club have not been helped by injuries, though in some games, the team just hasn’t looked in sync at all.
Erik ten Hag has to cop some of the flak, rightly so for some decisions he has made, though we have to keep faith in the Dutch manager.
Andre Onana is another who must come under the spotlight. The man from Cameroon started life at United pretty well, though the last month or so has been a disaster…
Mistake after mistake has cost United over the last few weeks, with Onana’s confidence now looking at an all time low.
Now, ex-United captain, Roy Keane, has given his take on the situation. The Northern Irishman claimed that Onana has had a ‘really poor start’ to life at the club, highlighting the frequency in which he’s making big mistakes. It’s hard to disagree honestly…
Check out What Keano had to say on Onana in full here:
He’s (Onana) had a really poor start. To be a goalkeeper at Man United is a hard position, you need a big personality after you’ve made mistakes. He’s already made a few mistakes, it’s not been a great start.” Keane told the Stick To Football podcast.
I want to be clear from the off that I still believe Onana is absolutely the right man for the job. He’s just going through a rough spell, like all keepers do at some point. It’s just a shame for Onana that his poor spell has come right at the start of his Old Trafford career.
Onana is someone who’ll front up to the criticism and admit his wrongdoings. I like that about him. He’s also a confident player who believes in his own ability. I fully expect he’ll turn it around in the not too distant future.
As fans, it’s our job to remain patient and get behind our man. There’s no doubting Onana has all the tools in his arsenal to be one of the best in the world. Keano is exactly right with what he’s saying right now, but I firmly believe Onana will bounce back.
