Man United are yet to commit to Anthony Martial in the long-term, with the club still deciding what to do with the striker.
Manchester United Football Club have plenty of key decisions to make in regard to the future of some players. For too many years, the Reds have handed big-money contracts to players who do not necessarily deserve them. Thus, it makes it tough to sell these footballers on…
The latest report from ESPN could suggest that the Old Trafford side are trying to turn a corner in that regard, with United now taking some time before rushing into decisions. It’s Anthony Martial’s future that the club are thinking about.
According to their story, United will mull over their contract decision on the 27-year-old, whose current deal expires next summer. They do hold the option to trigger a one-year extension, which feels likely at this point.
Apparently, the Reds are ‘keeping their options open’ with Martial, much depending on how he plays between now and the end of the season.
It largely stems from the fact that Martial spent far too long out injured last season, making him untrustworthy despite largely positive displays when he was on the field.
Factor in the signing of new number one striker Rasmus Hojlund and Martial is now sitting on the bench being dripfed a few minutes here and there. Something which he’s not totally happy about…
At this stage, I only see one outcome – and it involves Martial playing his football elsewhere in the 2024/25 season. I reckon United will extend his deal by a year, then look to sell him on for a pretty minimal fee over the summer.
There was some better news on Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Both of whom are expected to be given new deals.
