Victor Lindelof has made it clear he’d like to extend his stay at Man United, with the Swede enjoying himself at the club at present.
In the wake of Manchester United injury problems over the last eight months, Victor Lindelof has stood up to be counted.
After a pretty turbulent few years at the heart of defence alongside Harry Maguire, the former SL Benfica man has been nothing short of excellent ever since being given his chance after Lisandro Martinez went down in April.
The Ice Man deserves credit for that. It would have been so easy for him to moan or look to force a move away. Instead, he’s risen to the challenge and proven his capabilities.
Now, when asked by a Swedish media outlet what his plans for the future were, the United star has made his intentions clear, admitting that he’d love to extend his contract at the club and stay beyond his current deal.
When asked by Fotbollskanalen whether he accepts the one-year extension deal in his current contract, Lindelof replied:
“That’s more than I heard. But I have an option [for another] year and there is a deadline for it. When exactly I don’t know. But it feels quite likely that it will be activated,”
He was then asked whether he’d want to further extend his stay, the Ice Man responded:
“Absolutely. I enjoy myself very much. I am entering my seventh year at the club. I feel good and the family feels good. It’s a club that I really like, and that I love to represent,” Lindelöf explained.
For many years, this club has handed big-money contracts to fringe players who don’t necessarily deserve them. However, in this case, I’d love to see Lindelof handed a deal. He’s someone who can start when required and perform at a high level. He’s also displayed an exemplary attitude.
The fact that he’s loving life in Manchester must be just a bonus. As long as his family is happy, he’s content with his playing time and the club is happy with his output, then a new deal feels like the best option for all involved at this stage of his career.
