Tyrell Malacia is closing in on his return from injury, with the Dutchman now back out on the training field.
Arguably the biggest story of Manchester United’s season so far has been the injury crisis. Erik ten Hag has been dealing with major treatment table woes since pre-season and it doesn’t look like letting up any time soon.
One man who we’re yet to see this season is Tyrell Malacia. The Dutchman has been dealing with a knee injury that was suffered last season. Initially, United had hoped he wouldn’t have to go under the knife to deal with the problem. However, that plan changed, with the ex-Feyenoord man eventually going under the knife.
Talk of his return has been fairly quiet. However, the Manchester Evening News have now provided an update on the future of the full-back. It’s good news.
According to their claim, he is now back in light training, conducting some minor ball work during an individual workout. The United player is now said to be ‘just a few weeks away’ from making his first-team comeback, which is obviously a massive boost for Ten Hag.
After initially trying to manage the knee issue with pain injections, surgery had to be undergone by the Dutchman, presumably to prolong his career and hopefully put the injury problems behind him.
The interesting thing here is in regard to who plays at left-back when everyone is fit. Sergio Reguilon has looked impressive, albeit during limited minutes, while Luke Shaw’s ability is there for all to see. Having three left-backs capable of playing in any given game does feel like a bit much, but it’ll be intriguing to see how it all unfolds.
