Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Christian Eriksen, as Man United squeezed past Copenhagen in the Champions League.
Manchester United Football Club were very average for large stretches again yesterday, though the Red Devils managed to grind out a massive Champions League victory.
Erik ten Hag’s side were dreadful in the first 45 minutes, creating next to nothing in the way of goalscoring opportunities. Obviously, that’s less than ideal given what was at stake.
Eyebrows were raised at half-time when Sofyan Amrabat was withdrawn, though Christian Eriksen’s introduction was an excellent one. As soon as he took to the field, the Red Devils just seemed to have more control on the situation.
His inch-perfect passing, excellent decision-making and general experience helped swing the pendulum back in United’s favour. It was his pass that led to the eventual match-winner.
After the game Erik ten Hag hailed Eriksen as the game-changer for United, hailing his ‘always positive’ and ‘very important’ impact.
Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say in full here:
“Very important, Christian is always positive,” Ten Hag said live on TNT Sports, per Football365. “He brings football and we did not have the football in the first half.
“Copenhagen are well organised and you have to break them. Christian Eriksen makes the right passes.”
You just have to appreciate what Erikten brings to the table in these sort of matches. He should be the first name on the team sheet against sides that are going to sit back and look to hit United on the break. Nobody has his calmness in possession. Nobody has his quality, either.
Yes, he isn’t the best in the defensive aspect of the game, but with the right players around him, those flaws can be covered up.
I wouldn’t necessarily be starting him against the likes of Manchester City, but in certain games, he’s arguably our most important playmaker.
