Jean-Clear Todibo would love to join Man United, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United’s season has been defined by injuries so far. Erik ten Hag has effectively been working with one hand tied behind his back at times, with the Red Devils dealing with some serious treatment table woes.
Defensively, United were without their whole back four at one point. Though Raphael Varane has since returned. Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka are still sidelined.
Over the summer, the Reds were linked with a move to bring in a new centre-back, largely due to the fact that Harry Maguire was up for sale, while the likes of Eric Bailly, Axel Tuanzebe, Teden Mengi and Phil Jones all moved on.
Among the names mentioned with a possible United switch was Jean-Clair Todibo. The Frenchman currently plies his trade for Nice in Ligue 1.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Todibo’s future, claiming that the United-linked defender ‘would love to join’ the Reds as he’s attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League. It does come with the caveat that he’d be an expensive signing. That probably rules out a January move.
Check out what Fabrizio Romano said on Jean-Clair Todibo here:
“Todibo is a player in the list of Manchester United already since June, July, they had very positive conversations on player side.” Romano said live on The United Stand.
“From what I’m hearing still now, the ideas not changed, Todibo would love to join Manchester United.
“He’s really attracted by the opportunity to play in the Premier League. He’s an expensive player.
“He remains a player appreciated by United’s scouring department… not the only one.”
This one could become immediately more intriguing if you factor in Sir Jim Ratcliffe potentially buying a stake in the club. Don’t forget his Ineos group currently owns Nice. Would a cut-price deal be on the cards? It’s too soon to say.
In terms of natural talent, Todibo would shoot right to the top of the centre-back pecking order at United. A move next summer, regardless of who is in charge of the club, would make sense. Rapha Varane will continue to pick up injuries while both the aforementioned Maguire and Victor Lindelof aren’t getting any younger.
Signing a player in a lower age bracket would not only help us in the here and now, but give Ten Hag one less headache to worry about in the long run.
