Yes. You did read that correctly. Man United could look to bring David de Ge back on a short-term deal.
Manchester United Football Club made a bold goalkeeping decision over the summer. The Red Devils chose to let David de Gea leave on a free transfer after many years of brilliant service. At the time, it felt like the fans never really got the chance to say a proper goodbye to the superstar Spaniard.
Well, the Old Trafford side may get that opportunity…
It’s The Sun with the story. They claim that United are planning an ‘astonishing’ bid to bring back the fan favourite De Gea on a short-term deal.
Why? Well, the club are worried they’ll be short on goalkeeping options if/when Andre Onana heads to the African Cup of Nations with Cameroon. According to the claim, they’re ‘pleading’ with De Gea to come back on a small-in-length contract.
United were caught off guard when Onana decided to make a U-turn on his international future, but situations like this is why you should absolutely keep positive relationships with players like De Gea. Let’s be honest. United didn’t handle his exit well at all. If I were him, that’d make me think twice about doing the club any favour at all.
It also says an awful lot about how United view Altay Bayindir. The man from Turkey is yet to make his Red Devils debut, but if they’re looking to bring De Gea back, it tells me they’re not too convinced about the ex-Fenerbahce man.
In terms of what will happen, I have no idea. It’d be something special if De Gea does come back, though, purely so he can have a proper send-off next time.
