Chelsea Trivia
- How many league draws have we had against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge?
- In the 7 league seasons we’ve played Chelsea, how many goals have we scored against them at Griffin Park/Gtech, and at Stamford Bridge?
- Losing in play-off and JPT finals have been commonplace in recent years, but we also lost a cup final at Stamford Bridge. What was it, and when?
1.We’ve never had a league draw there in 7 visits. However, we have won at Chelsea in our 3 of our last 4 visits in the Top Tier. 3-1 in 1939, 4-1 in 2022 and 2-0 in 2023. (Chelsea won 3-2 in 1946).
2.We’ve scored 5 in the 7 league games against Chelsea at Griffin Park/Gtech, but a staggering 14 goals in the corresponding visits to Stamford Bridge.
3.Prior to winning the play-off final at Wembley, our last trophy success was the London War Cup Final win in 1942. But we also reached the final of that competition the previous year as well. On that occasion we lost 2-3 to Reading with the game played at Stamford Bridge.
Oxford & Cambridge Teaser
It is well known that Brentford FC were founded in October 1889 at the Oxford & Cambridge Hotel.
But have you ever tried a google search, or looked at local history book, to see what it looked like, or even where it was? If you have, you would have probably received a “404-page not found” or been looking at a blank paper page.
In our next newsletter, Jonathan Burchill takes a detailed look at the evidence that exists about the building and provides a comprehensive outline of the place where it all began for our football club.
Jonathan is the author of the book, A Pub on Each Corner a unique history of Brentford through season-by-season reviews of the events at Griffin Park. Recounting stories and statistics from both on and off the pitch – from fires to floodlights, from abandoned redevelopment plans to multiple missed penalties – Jonathan writes about our club but also the social history affecting those connected with it for over a century
