Man United are looking to reintroduce Kobbie Mainoo back to action gradually after his lengthy injury issue.
Manchester United’s injury issues have been well-documented this season. The Old Trafford club have been working without many players for large stretches, making Erik ten Hag’s job infinitely harder.
One of the more gutting injury blows was losing Kobbie Mainoo. The young midfielder has shown promise aplenty, both at youth level, then during pre-season.
The Stockport-born youngster has been out for the best part of four months now, meaning the Reds will have to approach Mainoo’s cautiously – in spite of all the hype that his potential return brings.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United are looking to ‘slowly build up’ the 18-year-old’s minutes, as he targets a return to full fitness.
Mainoo actually played 45 minutes in the UEFA Youth Champions League against Copenhagen in midweek and he actually looked super sharp. No doubt it would have felt good to get those minutes under the belt, though this is just the start of the comeback.
For us supporters, it’s about tempering our expectations. Mainoo has looked promising every single time I’ve seen him out on the pitch, though we have to remember he’s still so young and raw. He will need patience. First, in regard to making his first-team comeback. Second, just generally. Mainoo will still have bad games, purely due to the naivety of youth.
We have to remain patient, keep Mainoo grounded and ensure we stick behind him at all times because we could have an absolute gem on our hands.
