Lisandro Martinez has provided an update on his injury return, following suffering a second metatarsal problem.
Injuries has been arguably the biggest story of Manchester United’s season so far. Whether it’s due to Erik ten Hag overworking his players or just sheer bad luck remains to be seen.
However, the Red Devils have been without several of their key faces for prolonged periods. That lack of consistency is a major factor behind the Old Trafford club’s struggles – particularly defensively.
With Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw, you sort of expect it. Both have always picked up injuries in their career. However, the Lisandro Martinez treatment table woes really do hurt because of his importance.
Licha would pick up a metatarsal problem against Sevilla back in April. He’d miss the rest of the season with the issue. The Argentine would come back in pre-season and he’d look sharp – but only for a few games before the same problem would arise again.
Now, the key United star has provided an update on the injury, admitting that he has to ‘be patient’ with the recurring issue. Obviously, he came back too quickly last time and both the club and player want to avoid that happening again.

“I am in the process of recovery and happy to be here visiting the club. It is the second time that an injury like this has happened to me. So, you have to be patient.” Martinez told TNT Sports Argentina.
I feel for Licha. No doubt this time away is proving to be really tough for the centre-back, who will hate watching his teammates struggle just like they are doing right now.
We just have to hope and pray that this will be it for the metatarsal issues. We simply cannot afford to lose Martinez for any longer.
The verdict
United are not the same team without Licha. That much has become obvious due to the performances without him. It’s his aggressive style of play, ability to play out from the back and on-field leadership. Without him, the defence just doesn’t look anywhere near as secure.
We’re not going to see him for the foreseeable future. It’s going to be a long couple of months, while the attack better start scoring because the clean sheets look like they’re going to be few and far between.
