Man United have eyes on Brentford’s Ivan Toney, as they look to provide some forward help for Rasmus Hojlund.
I think any Manchester United fan will have seen enough from Rasmus Hojlund in the early stages to say that he has what it takes to be a high-level striker. However, placing such a burden on a young player was always going to be tough.
Hojlund is yet to score in the Premier League, despite having three Champions League goals to his name. The rawness of youth has been there on some occasions. He needs help. As of right now, Anthony Martial isn’t really providing that support to the Dane.
It makes sense then, when the Daily Mail run a claim which states that the Reds want a ‘support striker’ to help Hojlund as he settles into life in the Premier League.
There is a ‘sense’ that Hojlund would benefit from working alongside a more experienced centre-back, preferably someone who could ease the goalscoring burden on the 20-year-old. With that in mind, United are monitoring experienced striking talent all across Europe, with a view to making a January signing.
One man the club are ‘known to be monitoring’ the situation of, is 27-year-old striker Ivan Toney. Apparently, the Brentford forward is set to leave the current club in one of the next two windows.
Toney, currently unavailable due to a betting rulebreak, has proven his worth ever since earning promotion to the Premier League with Brentford.
There can be absolutely no doubt that Toney would help Hojlund. I’d even expect to see the Englishman start ahead of the young Dane, at least in the short term.
The problem? Money. Toney would not be available on the cheap, that’s for sure.
