Bruno Fernandes has made it no secret that he’d be keen to play alongside Joao Neves at Man United.
Manchester United’s midfield has turned into a real problem area. Injuries haven’t helped in terms of consistency, while some players just do not look up to standard. Mason Mount hasn’t been given a proper run in the side, Christian Eriksen is getting older and Sofyan Amrabat looks a yard off the pace at the moment. Casemiro is out for the foreseeable.
It makes sense, then, to see United linked with moves to bring in new midfielders at some point. Among the names mentioned in the same breath as a potential Old Trafford switch is Joao Neves. The 19-year-old is a mega-talented central player, who currently plies his trade for Benfica.
United have always had success when buying from Portugal. Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo are the two best examples of that. Now, the former has spoken out about potentially teaming up with Neves at club level.
Bruno admitted he ‘would love’ to have his Portugal compatriot, Neves, at United, while tipping the talented midfielder for a ‘great future’ wherever he ends up.
Check out the quote in full here:
“I would love to have him at United, he has top quality! But it’s João choice…”. Fernandes is quoted as telling Sport TV, per Fabrizio Romano.
“He’s great player but it depends on the coach ideas! He will have a great future, in United or somewhere else”
Neves looks to be the real deal, but like Bruno says, it’s down to what Ten Hag wants. United could do with getting younger in midfielder, but Neves would not come cheaply. The Portuguese duo could complement each other well in midfield, though, there’s no doubt about that.
Either way, it’s nice to see Bruno talking up Neves for a big future within the game. Yes, it would be lovely to see him at Old Trafford, but with the way things are going right now, Neves could be setting his sights higher…
