Marcus Rashford was training with England ahead of their game against Macedonia later, allaying injury fears.
Manchester United haven’t been themselves this season, for whatever reason. You can lay some blame at the door of the Glazers, whose off-field antics are certainly a distraction for the rest of the squad. Injuries is another contributing factor, while some players just aren’t performing.
One player who falls into that last category is Marcus Rashford. For all his natural ability, the Englishman just hasn’t looked up to scratch so far this term. He looks a little low on confidence, while everything he tries just isn’t working in his favour.
His problems were further compounded while representing England against Malta on Friday. He’d clash with a teammate and have to go off injured. At the time, the issue wasn’t deemed serious by Gareth Southgate.
Now, on the Manchester Evening News live blog, those fears have been eased further, with the regular United starter spotted back in training ahead of England’s game vs Macedonia this evening.
The last thing Rashford needed was to suffer a longer-term injury and miss some game-time. He needs to play through his low confidence at the moment. Perhaps a goal or an assist will help change his fortunes around.
Being fit for tonight’s England game is massive. It’s a decent opportunity against a side that England should be beating handily. Let’s hope he plays well, finds the back of the net and comes back to Manchester with a new lease of life.
I’m still maintaining the opinion that Rashford is the most important goal scorer for this club at this point in time. Rasmus Hojlund is still so young, while the likes of Antony and Anthony Martial just aren’t scoring enough.
