Man United may find it tough to sign Evan Ferguson, with massive competition for his signature.
Just last week, we covered a claim that linked Manchester United with a move to sign Evan Ferguson in order to help ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund’s shoulders.
The striker, currently plying his trade for Brighton, is enjoying himself in the Premier League. Over the last twelve months, Ferguson has drastically improved as a player. His hold-up ability, sheer prowess in front of goal and his team ethic would be a positive for any squad in world football.
It’s no surprise to hear that United are not the only team in the race to acquire Ferguson, then. It’s TEAMtalk with the story. They believe it’s a five-way battle to sign the Republic of Ireland striker.
United, Liverpool and Tottenham have been joined in the race to sign Ferguson by both Arsenal and Chelsea. For Brighton, it’s an ideal situation. They’re going to expect a massive bidding war between a handful of the richest clubs on the planet, which will only drive the price up.
Ferguson recently signed a new long-term deal with Brighton, meaning the ball is firmly in the Seagulls’ court. Right now, they value Ferguson at over £100m, while they’re ideally hoping to sell the player for a British-record fee that would eclipse the £115m package Chelsea paid to sign Moises Caicedo.
If I’m being honest here, I’m not sure how United win this race. They’re not playing at a high enough level to convince Ferguson to join right now, while we’d have to assume he’d be behind Hojlund in the pecking order initially. Would he be okay with that? I’d have my doubts.
