Raphael Varane is being eyed by Bayern Munich, after his recent benching by Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United’s season is hardly going to plan right now. Erik ten Hag has to take some responsibility, though the bulk of the blame lies with the current owners and board.
Whether we like it or not, dressing room unrest is always likely in the current circumstances. There’s so much pressure on shoulders and sometimes, that boils over.
Take Raphael Varane for instance. He’s currently benched, with Jonny Evans picking up his minutes. The Frenchman came on against Copenhagen in the Champions League. He was utterly dreadful.
Whether it’s his age catching up with him, or Varane just simply not caring enough about United at present remains to be seen. However, there’s a very real chance he could want out.
Sky Sports Germany provide the latest information on that front, using information from reputable journalist, Florian Plettenberg.
He believes that European giant, Bayern Munich, are actually eyeing Varane as a possible transfer target. It’s stated there are no discussions between the parties at this stage, though Bayern have talked about the defender internally.
Furthermore, the United player is said to be ‘dissatisfied’ at United at this point in time, which I can only assume has something to do with his recent benching.
It’s a tricky situation. A fully fit Varane is probably United’s best defender, though it’s better to move on a player, particularly an unhappy one, a year too early rather than a year too late. If I’m United and we’re talking a large amount of money, it could be worth taking, particularly if the Reds do not see the World Cup winner as a regular starter.
