Man United are looking to beat out fierce competition in order to sign Youssouf Fofana.
Manchester United need further investment in this playing squad. At this stage, the current crop of players just are not performing up to the required standard, making Erik ten Hag’s job that much tougher.
When Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stake in the club is confirmed, you’d like to think money will be made readily available to spend. Perhaps what’s even more important than the actual funding is having someone who knows how to spend it wisely.
Recently, we covered a story linking United with a move to acquire AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana. That story claimed United were closely monitoring the French midfielder ahead of the January and summer transfer windows.
Now, Tutto Juve have backed up that interest in the French midfielder, claiming United are ‘ready to overcome’ competition to sign the 24-year-old midfielder.
The Red Devils will have to beat out both PSG and Juventus to acquire Fofana, who is valued at €30m (£26m) per the report.
Why is the valuation so low, you ask? Well, Fofana’s current deal expires in 2025 and there are no signs suggesting he is going to put pen on paper on new terms. For a player of his age and experience, this does have potential to become a bargain for the eventual winner of his signature.
Fofana is mobile, good on the ball and an intelligent midfield player. There can be no doubt he’d start games as soon as he walked through the entrance door at the Theatre of Dreams.
The problem? Beating out competition from two superior teams. Fofana will have options to stay in his homeland with PSG if he prefers, or head to the Serie A where Juventus have a great shot at winning titles every single season.
