Antoine Griezmann will not be joining Man United, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Manchester United have diverted from their usual blueprint over the last ten years. This is a club that used to put trust in young players and hone their talents. Recently, big money has been spent on the ready-made player. It has not worked.
It’s why I was somewhat shocked to hear that the Red Devils were apparently looking at bringing in Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. According to the linked report, the club were prepared to triple his wages.
Well, Fabrizio Romano has now weighed in on the situation. Thankfully, the journalist has dismissed the rumours that stated United were keen on the 32-year-old, adding that there’s ‘nothing’ true about those recent reports. For now, Griezmann ‘only wants’ Atletico Madrid.

🚨 Understand there’s nothing into the recent reports about Antoine Griezmann and Manchester United.
Griezmann already rejected Saudi huge bid in June as he only wants Atlético Madrid. No chance to move now.

Griezmann is now getting up there in age. Paying him big money would feel like a massive mistake, particularly as he’d likely only agree to come on a massive contract.
It doesn’t look like there’s any truth to it at all, which does leave me feeling pretty relieved. Maybe United are learning from their mistakes? Maybe Sir Jim Ratcliffe has had a word with the powers that be and warded them against making this transfer? Who knows.
Either way, money has to be spent wisely from here on out if we’re to start enjoying major success again.
