One Man United midfielder is ‘very much expected’ to leave the club when the January transfer window rolls around.
Manchester United absolutely need new players in order to further continue their progression as a club. Before that, though, some faces simply have to be sold. The Old Trafford side are paying far too much in terms of weekly wages to underperforming footballers.
One player who falls into that bracket is Donny van de Beek. I have to be honest, I’d genuinely forgotten that the Dutchman was still at the club as we’ve barely seen him in training, while we’ve seen him feature in the matchday squad even less.
Now, we’ve been provided an update on his future and it comes from Fabrizio Romano. He says the United player is ‘very much expected’ to leave in January, with the club and the player set to ‘find a solution’ to seal his exit.
We’ve been here before, we all know what that means. In the short term, I’d suggest that United will probably have to subsidise Van de Beek’s wages, either on a six-month loan deal or permanent transfer away.
Check out what Romano had to say in full here:
“There’s no concrete update yet on Donny van de Beek, but he is one player who is very much expected to leave in January.” Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column.
“United and Van de Beek will find a solution for sure, though there is no clarity yet about a specific club, it’s still too early.”
Van de Beek absolutely needs to find an exit by any means necessary for the good of his career. It absolutely hasn’t worked out for him here in Manchester. That’s not to say he’s a bad player. Anything but in fact.
I don’t doubt that when he does move on, Van de Beek will get his career back and track and start performing at the levels we know he can. Whether it’s a move back to Ajax, or a lower-end Premier League side, he just needs a change of scenery.
