Man United have made Jarrad Branthwaite their top defensive target heading into a huge 2024 for the club.
Manchester United Football Club have been struggling defensively this season. Some of that can be attributed to injuries, though some of the lads back there just have not been performing well.
Suddenly, our back line is getting older. Hence, it makes sense for Erik ten Hag to look to solve those issues in the transfer market, specifically by bringing in someone younger.
Enter, Jarrad Branthwaite.
It’s TEAMtalk with the scoop. They say that the Reds have made the 21-year-old Premier League man their ‘prime defensive target’. Plans will be put in place in 2024 to begin the overhaul of United’s defence.
TEAMtalk add that these situations may yet change, as there’s still six months between now and next summer. With changes set to be made within the club hierarchy. Branthwaite is also being eyed by Tottenham Hotspur, with both Spurs and United a fan of his ‘impressive positioning’ and ‘versatility’ across the back line.
Branthwaite has been linked with United previously. As a result, I’ve been keeping a keen eye on the young man and I have to say, he’s super impressive for a man so young. He plays with real calmness, solidity and courage. United could do with more of that within their dressing room, that’s for sure.
The problem here is that Branthwaite will not come cheaply. Even if Everton end up relegated this season, the Englishman is still going to cost an awful lot of money. We’d like to think at that point, the Old Trafford club will have new (at least partial) owners in place, with perhaps some more financial backing on the way.
