Man United have eyes on two defensive targets, in wake of Raphael Varane falling down the pecking order.
Manchester United have not looked the same defensively this season. Something is certainly off. Lisandro Martinez’s injury has not helped, while Raphael Varane has struggled to break into the team of late. This was the main pairing last term. Losing them both has changed things drastically.
It does make sense to see United linked with some new centre-halves as a result, though with money tight, I’d be surprised if these moves happened before next summer.
It’s The Sun with the latest update. They claim United have ‘stepped up’ their interest in a duo in particular, due to Varane’s recent fall from grace.
First up, we have Jean-Clair Todibo. A Nice player, who has looked mightily impressive over the last twelve months or so. The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a Reds transfer already this summer so it’s no surprise to hear his name mentioned again.
The Old Trafford club could face interest from Arsenal and Chelsea in pursuit of Todibo, though perhaps Sir Jim Ratcliffe, whose INEOS group own Nice, could help turn the tide in our favour.
Secondly, there is Goncalo Inacio. He currently plies his trade for Sporting Lisbon. United have good history when buying from Portugal, so it makes sense for their scouts to continue exploring that country for the next big thing.
Inacio is another highly-rated player, with Liverpool also keen on his services.
One thing feels pretty clear. United will have to finish the season strongly if they want any chance at luring either Todibo or Inacio to the Theatre of Dreams as they’re going to have some pretty good offers on the table from elsewhere.
Do you think either Todibo or Inacio would improve Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
