Mason Mount is the latest Man United player to be hit with the injury bug.
The story of Manchester United’s season has been injuries. There is absolutely no getting away from that. Erik ten Hag’s job has been made harder as a result.
This recent international break has been somewhat kind to United, after initial concern. Andre Onana and Marcus Rashford both picked up problems, though both will be good to go this weekend. Luke Shaw is on the mend and available for selection, too.
Just when things were looking up, Ten Hag has confirmed yet another Man United injury blow. This time, it’s Mason Mount. According to the gaffer, the Reds will ‘assess’ whether the play is fit for the Everton game this weekend after he picked up an ‘issue’. The severity of the problem has not yet been confirmed, nor has the affected area.
Check out what the gaffer had to say on Mason Mount here:
“Mason picked up an issue so we have to assess if he’s available for the game or not,” Ten Hag told club media, including Manutd.com.
Honestly, Mount cannot catch a break. Just when Christian Eriksen picked up a problem and there was an opening for the Englishman, he too picks up a knock and is now looking likely to be missing for at least this weekend’s game.
The ex-Chelsea man just needs a real run in the side to showcase his talents, because I still firmly believe that he’s an excellent footballer who would improve this side.
His mobility, pressing style, on-ball quality and energy would all be valuable to a midfield that needs more legs. This felt like his chance and I really hope he can get involved in some capacity here, even if just for a half hour off the substitutes bench.
In another sense, this could be an opportunity for Sofyan Amrabat, who has also struggled during his first few months at Old Trafford.
