Mason Mount is set to be out for up to a month with a fresh injury that he’d pick up in training.
Yesterday, we learned that Mason Mount picked up an injury in training, though the extent of the issue was not revealed by Erik ten Hag.
Well, overnight, more media outlets shone further light on the Mount problem. It’s the Daily Mail who have revealed the true extent of the midfielder’s injury, claiming that he has a calf strain that will keep the ex-Chelsea man sidelined for up to a month.
Mount picked up the problem during a recent training session at the AON Training Complex, while club medical staff are still assessing the problem. The initial indications are that it is a three-to-four-week injury.
It goes without saying, this is a major blow for Mount, who was likely about to be given his big opportunity in the wake of Christian Eriksen going down with a problem. The energetic midfielder just cannot catch a break at the moment…
This is Mount’s second semi-serious injury since making the move to Old Trafford. The Reds have had some pretty shocking luck in that area. At what point does it become more than just bad luck?
I always worry when players do not start well here in Manchester. These footballers never really seem to recover from slow beginnings, perhaps it’s an intensity thing. There’s no bigger pressure-cooker than playing for the Old Trafford club and the fans do get on your back quickly.
In terms of going forward, this now presents a real opportunity for someone like Sofyan Amrabat to prove his worth. He’s also suffered from a pretty slow start to life in Manchester.
